The Evolving World of Property Insurance and Climate Change

The seminar will discuss the historical responses of the insurance industry to changes in world economics, the evolution of industry and society, and how the insurance industry may respond to climate changes. Mr. Sienema will use historical examples to illustrate the role property insurance has played in other events and the interplay with natural disaster agencies. The roles of insurers and reinsurers, transfer of risk, adaptation to climate changes, and evolving roles of the insurance industry and government will be discussed using real claim examples.

About Henry Sienema, MA, AIIC, SBA

Mr. Sienema was formally educated with a master’ degree in History and then acquired his formal insurance education achieving an Associate Degree as well as the pre-Fellowship designation. He is a student of the insurance business and has lectured and taught insurance courses for decades. In his native Canada, he served as President of the Insurance Institute Chapter and as a National Director and founded a local college curriculum in insurance. He has an excess of 40 years of experience and has been a field adjuster, underwriter, manager, executive, and entrepreneur, who has a unique historical perspective on the insurance industry. He currently focuses his attention and Company on assisting attorneys and claimants, mostly with emphasis on catastrophe claims and represents commercial claimants, condominiums, and government agencies as well as local governments in their claims processes with their insurers.
